The #1 Key to Book Marketing Success
Many authors think the key to successful book marketing is spending money on ads, promotions on instagram, or sending out thousands of free copies in hopes for reviews, but the real key to marketing is consistency!
The word ‘consistency’ is thrown around so much in marketing, and a lot of the advice I see is about posting every day, or spending hours on your marketing plan, but it’s so much more than that.
When we talk about consistency in marketing, especially social media marketing, it does not mean posting every day and flooding the news feeds with content, but rather posting quality content on a regular basis and not going M.I.A. for weeks or months at a time. Being consistent builds trust with your readers, makes you more likable, and puts you at the forefront of your followers’ minds so when you drop a new book or new product, your readers will be ready to buy and support you!
It’s important to post regularly not only so your followers stay interested and engaged, but also so you know what changes you need to make for future content. The only way to see what’s working is to post regularly. Organic marketing (traffic generated outside of paid promotions and ads) can take time and it’s important to be patient and keep working at your strategy so you’ll see the results you want.
I recommend making a quality post once a week to start and then building towards making a few good posts each week, depending on what your time and bandwidth allows which will be different for everyone. Aim for quality over quantity, making sure that your posts are a good reflection of your brand and the message you want to put out there.
Once you’ve been posting on a regular basis, you can use the analytics tools on your social media platforms to see what’s working and what may need to be adjusted. If people aren’t interacting with your posts, maybe using a new handful of hashtags will let more people see your content, or maybe you need to change the wording in your post descriptions. If you’re not selling in your Instagram Stories, that’s another place to be more consistent. Using your stories, you can build stronger connections with your audience by hosting livestreams, using polls/question stickers, reaction stickers, etc. Stories are also one of the only places we can link people DIRECTLY to our books and products (using link stickers!) so if you’re not making Story posts each week, you definitely should be!
