7 Pieces of Equipment I Use to Film YouTube and Social Media Content

Hi! I’m Shelby Leigh and I use social media to get in front of thousands of readers. In just the last few years, I’ve sold 50k+ copies of my books and taught over 5000 authors and creatives how to sell books on social media, too.

Below, you’ll find 7 pieces of equipment I use on a regular basis to film YouTube videos and content for social media. I hope you find some new tools to use to help with your creative content!

Camera Equipment

Sony ZVE 10 camera

This is the camera I use for all my YouTube videos!

The Alpha ZV-E10 is a mirrorless camera, featuring high-quality imagery and great audio recording (though I use an external mic - below!). The interchangeable lens system offers a wide selection to suit your creative style, and the advanced audio options and automatic focus shifts make this the ideal camera for content creators.

Microphones

BOYA lavalier microphone

What I use when recording my YouTube videos! Designed for videographers on a limited budget and video hobbyists, this microphone is easy-to-use and has a compact design. It has clear recording, is omnidirectional, and is compatible with most devices.

Blue Yeti microphone

I use this for livestreams, podcast interviews, and calls where I want to sound better.

This professional USB mic produces clear, powerful, broadcast-quality sound and includes enhanced effects, advanced modulation, and HD audio samples with the download option. Setup is quick, and the Yeti also features studio controls for headphone volume, pattern selection, instant mute, and microphone gain that put you in charge of the recording process.

Tripod & Lighting

Extendable Tripod Stand

This tripod set is easy to use, durable in construction, amazing in length, and works for both phones and cameras! With its extendable phone clamp, lightweight portability, and universal compatibility, this tripod makes filming a breeze!

Small ring light

I love how this ring light has adjustable brightness and color temps, angles, and height! The base is stable, too, so I don’t have to worry about it tipping. Works great if you need some more light.

Large ring light with remote

If you really need light - this is the one to get! The soft, side-emitting light offers a diffused glow while also providing plenty of light. It can hold two phones simultaneously and the remote control allows for easy control. You can even use the 12 built-in lighting effects to add a little pizazz to videos!

Microphones & Storage

External storage

Video files take up a lot of your computer storage, so I use this to house my larger video files so they don’t take up space and energy on my laptop.

This one has a capacity of 1TB in an ultra-compact portable hard drive. Seamlessly connect to computers, transfer content fast, and take comfort in its drop resistance.

At the time of writing this, the drive even includes a complimentary one-month membership to the Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps Plan for access to photo and video editing apps.

I hope you learned of a new piece of equipment to incorporate into your filming routine and make your life a bit easier.
